No person was ever honored for what he/she received. Honor has been the reward for what he/she gave.-Calvin Coolidge

Ms. Marjorie Forrest was taught at a young age that it is better to give than to receive. She’s a loving mother, grandmother, an entrepreneur and a community activist.  Marjorie is a people person, so along with juggling life, work and family, she’s always spared time to give of herself, by lending a helping hand, giving countless hours, in an effort to be a positive influence in her community.   As a Mortgage Consultant at SLH Financial Solutions she’s in the business of changing lives every day by offering her clients practical solutions for all their mortgage needs. She also lends her support by managing and marketing two other family owned and operated businesses located here in Broward county; GRUMP Termites and Pest Control along with BLUE DIAMOND Alterations and Dry Cleaning.

She’s a busy woman, but nothing brings her more joy, than bringing joy to others. She has achieved much in her life and career, but being an active member of The Kiwanis Club of Greater Sunrise, allows her to fulfill that purpose in so many other ways.

In her spare time, she selflessly volunteers, working very passionately to organize fundraisers to provide back to school supplies, annual Thanksgiving baskets to the less fortunate in the community. In addition, she also visits nursing homes in her community interacting with the residents by spreading a little love and joy in an effort to keep them stimulated and put a smile on their faces. Over the years, she’s established herself as a very valuable member of the club, which afforded her the opportunity to be voted in as Club President. As president, she wanted to use the opportunity to create a lasting legacy. Being a woman of Caribbean decent, it was instilled in her by her grandmother, at a very young age, the importance of having an education; therefore she decided to formulate a scholarship program; giving high school seniors with a gpa of 4.0 and the willingness to succeed an opportunity to further their education.  Initially, the program was designed to only assist students living in the city of Sunrise and attending Piper High.  In it’s inception, the club was only able to offer scholarships in the amount of $500.00, but the program evolved and became such a success, it was expanded throughout the school districts of Broward county; now offering those well deserving students scholarships in the amount of $1000.00. To date, the Kiwanis Club scholarship program has given out upwards of $30,000.  Marjorie considers the program a labor of love, a gift that will keep giving, changing and impacting the lives of the less fortunate in a positive way for generations to come. The program’s motto is one child, one community at a time. My motto is change starts with one and that one is me, you and you too. Marjorie considers this initiative to be one of her greatest accomplishments to date. Therefore let’s continue help and support Marjorie in all her business endeavors, especially the Kiwanis Club, so they can continue to help these students to be the change that we want to see in the world.  For more information on how you can support the Kiwanis Club scholarship program, please call (954) 531-8204 SLH Financial Solutions Cell: (954) 817-6451Office: (954) 210-8705 GRUMPS Termite and Pest ControlOffice:(954) 601-1117 BLUE DIAMOND Alterations and Dry Cleaning Office: (954) 202-0912 On behalf of Reggae Runnins Live we would like to say thank you to Ms. Marjorie Forrest for giving me the opportunity to share her story.
